Provides an overview of the American education system, including the diverse historical and philosophical foundations of education. Includes the impact of philosophy on practice and the relationship between equity and access to education.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Use global and historical perspectives, philosophical concepts, and educational views to articulate evolving teaching philosophies of their own.
  2. Explain how major social, cultural, economic, and political forces have impacted and continue to impact education.
  3. Describe the diversity found in today's students and the impact of diversity on educational access and societal inequity.
