SOC 225 - Social Problems

Analyzes contemporary social problems, including topics such as social inequality, environmental degradation, impacts of globalization, and criminalization. Examines how social conditions come to be labeled as "problems," the causes and consequences of those conditions, and how social activists and policymakers respond to social problems.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will:

1. Apply sociological concepts and theory to analyze contemporary social problems. 

2. Demonstrate awareness of problems experienced by diverse social groups in the U.S. and globally. 

3. Identify social causes of problems in societies, or social factors that contribute to those problems. 

4. Recognize the value of social science research for understanding the causes of social problems and for developing responses to those problems. 

5. Critically reflect on their own perspectives and behavior in regard to social problems.
