PSY 110 - Exploring Psychology

A basic introduction to psychology that encourages an appreciation and understanding of the scientific approach to the study of human behavior.  Topics include the biological basis of behavior, states of consciousness, human development, learning and memory, motivation and emotion, personality and psychological disorders.  Learning through online videos, online activities and textbook reading.
 

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Apply analytical skills to social phenomena in order to understand human behavior. Use critical thinking skills to predict the behavior of ourselves and others in various circumstances. Understand the connection between the brain and behavior.

2. Apply knowledge and experience to foster personal growth and better appreciate the diverse social world in which we live. Develop a deeper understanding of one’s own self and the environment in which one lives. Apply the relevant concepts to life outside the classroom.

3. Understand the role of individuals and institutions within the context of society. Study the effects of numerous variables on the person, including genetic and environmental factors.
